Film out/HD: Squeeze or crop?

If I'm repeating questions that have been asked before, I apologize. I looked over the forum and at DVFilm for an answer and couldn't find one.

If I'm planning on an HD 16x9 or film out, should I shoot full frame 4x3 and crop, or can I get away with squeeze mode (which is what I would use if my final product were DVD)?

Re: Film out/HD: Squeeze or crop?

You'll get a very tiny picture quality improvement if you just go ahead and use squeeze mode, plus you'll save the hassle in post of having to crop/stretch the footage. So for your case, squeeze mode is probably the right decision.

can you see the widescreen anamorphic image in the viewfinder/LCD in the squeeze mode on the DVX00a? My TRV900 allows me too...

Thanks

No, it shows up squeezed in the viewfinder.

I believe there's are widescreen camera-mountable monitors that you can get for the DVX. I haven't tried them so I can't recommend any, but I've seen them around. I think B&H sells them.

Anyone tried these?
