Film Making Virgin

I wanna take up fim making...any tips on where to start?:dankk2:

Work as a PA on a few films in your area and ask questions. Try to work on ones with real lighting and sound. Also, read the posts on this forum, books on the aspects of filmmaking that interest you and watch the making of's and director's commentaries on DVD's for good movies that have them.

After that, if you can afford it, get a camera and start shooting. Just beware that the cost of the camera is only the first part. You then NEED to get a whole bunch of other items which can be pricey. And you will WANT to get a whole bunch more but will have to restrain yourself.

So what types of films are you planning on making? Documentaries, narratives, snuff?

Learn how to write a good story by studying the great writers at a good theater school. Then learn scriptwriting or how to turn it into a screenplay...It all starts with story...A film is a story told in pictures. If you go to a school you will find a bunch of similarly minded people that you can pool resources with...someone always has a camera and sometimes the schools will allow you to use theirs...

Just my 2 cents,

Best of luck,

What are are you looking to specialize in? Are you a producer/writer/director/production designer/editor/composer/graphic designer/marketer type of do everything yourself filmmaker? What do you think you are better than everyone else? You think you don't need anyone else? Hunh? That kind of attitude will get you nowhere! Just messing with ya incase it wasn't clear.

I wanna specialise in DIRECTING..if I was not clear.......Boy you lucky I live in the Fiji Islands or I would be kicking your ***.......Just messing with you...Fiji is a lovely place....look me up if you come over...Cheerz!!!!

I'd like to see you pay for me to fly over there and have you try!

Film Directing Shot by Shot - Steven D Katz
Making Movies - Sidney Lumet
Breaking In: How 20 Directors Got Their Start - Nicholas Jarecki
Cinematic Storytelling - Jennifer Van Sijll
In the Blink of An Eye - Walter Murch (Cause ya gotta know about editing to be a good director)

That's all for now. And if you want personal instruction on filmmaking, I will be happy to go to Figi all expenses paid for six days and seven nights. I'll call it Alex DePew Filmmaking Bootcamp. Pretty original hunh?

Cool!!!! Thanx for the info. I'll be sure to come knocking should something come up...and the Bootcamp thing will be awesome...I'll keep that in mind.
