Film makers: Take a tip from Harvey Weinstein

Hmmm.... I can see two very different POV's here clashing.

From Harvey's point of view, I understand he wants to sell the film to the audience and make it a success. There is nothing wrong with that.

On the other hand, I think we have plenty of "performers" both in front of and behind the camera. Not that making things entertaining is bad, but I think there is room for more intellectual and complex content and discussion.

I guess the goal would be to find a balance between being relatable to an audience while not dumbing things down just to sell a movie to the masses.

Honestly, I just thought it was a hilarious letter. That a professional would write that to another professional is almost beyond belief.

Errol got off easy. A friend of mine cut trailers for a couple Wayans Brothers movies Harvey produced, and said he heard Harvey on speakerphone talking to the Wayans like they were children, just scolding them mercilessly. Granted it's the Wayans, but there are countless stories of the abuse Harvey's inflicted on filmmakers and his underlings.

It's Harvey Weinstein. That's what he does. He sells the spectacle, and that often has nothing to do with the movie.

I think my favorite bit is asking Errol if he could recommend an actor for the role of himself in interviews.

"If there ever was a hell on earth...it's Dallas county."

My favorite quote from the film. The Phillip Glass score is incredible.
