after so much of going after the film look, we have a new 3D LED TV that everything (including all the movies I watch) look like soaps!

Everything looks so real and so "video" that it makes me feel like you can touch someone by reaching into the screen!

Just when you thought High Definition was awesome here comes more!

I'm talking about the this puppy right hia!: http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...XFXZA/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&returnurl=

if you have not yet seen this picture stop by best buy or something.
Your eyes will not want to accept what you are seeing at first! lol... and that's a warning, like your brain is going to take some time to sync this in and adapt! lol...

Specially when you see "The Dark Night" or "Avatar" or even pretty much all movies look crazy on there even "The Matrix" is a whole new movie now! lol...

I just saw "The Day The Earth Stood Still" with Kiano Reeves and it was so funny because you can clearly see miles away what parts are on greenscreen!
it's just crazy!

So anyway back to what I was saying,
Forget the film look! the soap look is in! lol...

Wait till you see the new OLED TV's coming down the pipe. 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and only 7-10mm thick!

I saw the Sony 11" version at NAB 2007...I swear, you COULD reach right in and grab what you were looking at!

AWESOME.

Attention K-Mart shoppers... 600hz plasma doesn't look like that (in case you don't go for that look).

My brother likes the "soaps" look... but I don't think it's "IN"... it's a matter of taste (he got a new 60" Aquos and loves it).

I do agree that it's "anti-film-look" however. It turns movies into a different experience... to each his own... I hope plasma is around for a long time.

the Joker in the dark night has a slight shade of gray and yellow inside his pupils! lol...

I'm just stunned really this is great!
I mean it looks like "The days of our lives" in super high def, but it's so beautiful!

My buddy here is like: "where's the grain" "I want grain dammit!" lol...
It looks so raw and behind the scenes!

Like you said Mattin, it's a matter of taste, I love it!

I personally don't like the look. But, I find that the ability to change the image SO dramatically with just a flick of a switch incredibly fascinating. I don't like what I am seeing. Yet, I cannot look away. I saw a clip from "Pirates of the Caribbean" when they were in the stateroom of the boat, looked like I was watching a PBS special. What was supposed to look natural and filmy, looked like a Broadway set. I mean, it wasn't even effecting the moving action, it was affecting the beam of light intruding into the room through the set window. It blew me away that the technology could have this much impact on the image.

do these tv's have the ability to go back to 60hz if you don't want that crap?

I went through the menus and did not see anything to change that.

I think I'm going to engage in a little tiny project and make a little video review about this thing. A minute or 2 long.

The whole "hrtz war thang" is a lcd tech problem only. Plasma doesn't have the same motion rendition problems that lcd has...so when you see that 240 hz tv for sale at your local best buy, just remember that...plus, plasma prices have dropped considerably since their inception and are now comparable to lcds.

Do it in some kind of Mr. Plinkett persona.

I saw Plasma, and I saw LDC, but when I saw this LED it was just something else. :)

.

I wonder how long it takes, till Red Giant comes out with a plugin that does this in After Effects.

"Instant Crap HD - Turns your 35mm Panavision material into a cheap soap"

Kind of a backwards Magic Bullet plugin.

Somebody will invent new TV viewing glasses with variable rotor fan blades that change 120-240hz back to 60hz/ 24p , although they may chop off your eyebrows!

Saw a 240hz LCD playing quantum of solace @best buy. There were literally a dozen people oohing and awwing at it. Kinda made me feel a little sad inside. (IMHO, it looked unbelieveably awful)

These high Hz settings are for fast action sports etc. Watch a HD football match at 200Hz and youll see why its so good.

These tvs do not have to be viewed this way. There are settings (simple I might add) to switch. When I first got my latest bravia i watched a bit of a movie with full motionflow and it looked ridiculous. Switched back to OFF and lovely film motion.

LEDTV's are still LCD...just backlit ones...so keep that in mind when purchasing. I agree, beautiful eye-popping colors but just god awful for 24p conversion. Last time i checked, most sports broadcasts only go up to 60 frames per second (NTSC standard i believe). These new lcdtvs do offer an advantage to pc gamers though. Also, we cant forget about the new 3d sets that are coming out...those will definitely require higher frame rates.

That's just frame interpolation, isn't it? If the algorithms were any good for viewing in slow motion, they could create 10x slow motion in post.

It fills in the gaps, with something that wasn't there in the original film, wasn't monitored or approved by the creators, and cannot possibly contain extra information over the original frames. A very bad thing IMHO. But I'm a strange guy. I sometimes wonder if we should look at 1920x1080 transfers of old films, because the creators had never seen the material at such a high resolution, not while creating it, not in projection, mostly it was 500p or less through production and release. It shows production flaws they never thought we would see. It's like examining a work of art on the microscope. The creator had no control at that level. Not fair:)

Interpolation is useful for sports, it will make fast panning less annoying.
