Film is in decline - what about 24?

It's inevitable that the film stock is slowly disappearing. I expect a lot of polarization within filmmaking community. Pro-film people will reiterate their love for the film look and talk down on digital cameras, and new generation will praise the dirt cheap approach of digital.

We all know those escapades never end.

But, the medium of film is being pushed out by a new guy. People will get used to it and eventually forget about it. But what about 24fps? Will it ever go out of style? New HD tv's, fascination with detail, one would think that 24fps look will come to an end too.

My guess is - it's only a matter of time. As the world progresses and speeds up, people will seek for quickest and simplest pleasures in entertainment, just so they can coast and relax in their heads for a moment. And I think that's exactly where the HD TV high-fps surreal footage comes in place.

I can't believe how old I am...I grew up on VHS tapes, floppy disks and cassettes, saw them killed by CD's, then saw CD pushed down by DVD, then the USB's, then the SD's...

The topic has been discussed many, many times here on DVXuser.

It could have gone all 60 fps decades ago. It didn't, most likely, because 60 fps looks live, not fictional. It doesn't have anything to do with film stock -- 24 fps is good for narrative works.

As for TVs and their "tru-motion" malarkey, I can't even tell you how many people's TVs I turned it off for, and they said "it looks much better now -- what did you do to fix it?" That option should be turned off at default.
