Alot of action sports dvd's which i have seem to have been de-interlaced....i know this knocks the overall quality down a notch but when i view my surf film dvd on my laptop, or any computer for that matter that there is mice teeth coming out of the wood work.....should i de-interlace it for the dvd and in the event that it goes to broadcast send them an interlaced version?

thanks,

you shouldn't see much, if any, interlaced artifacting on a computer, if you have the right media players installed.

i would leave it interlaced for the dvd, flat screen tvs and such all have deinterlacing hardware.

its funny, i run other surf dvd's and don't see anything....but when i encode it and put it onto a dvd (my film) i see mice teeth/ artifacting....

if the other dvds are non-interlaced, it could explain why you don't see any artifacts in a software media player.

most dvds aren't going to be watched on a laptop, tho, so don't let it interfere with what you do... maybe run some test encodes and dvd burns with a short piece of your footage, one interlaced, one progressive, and see how they look on some tvs.
