Film from still images - workflow

The Plumber

We are going to make a 4-5 min narrative sequence out of still images. The scene is mainly dialogues in 6 different environments (in a museum). The sound will be recorded later. All the still image films I've seen (notably La Jetee or the Colloques de chiens) are mainly action based. I wonder if anyone had any experience making still image scenes with dialogues and would have tips for that. Also, if anyone could advise on the workflow, that'd be very helpful. We're shooting with canon 5D mkII.
Thank you!

These days, from the example you and Ryan gave, Photoshop + After Effects would be the environment to use. I've done a lot of 'still' animations for the Wife's photos, and while other people may use other things, After Effects for the compositing, animations, etc. and Photoshop for the individual image manipulations.

Now, that said, I just got CS5 After Effects, and will be experimenting with using the "rotobrush', which looks to be a better tool than the older 'extract' Photoshop tool... Otherwise, 'hand' use of the select tool... tedious... but far more exacting if required is the Photoshop tool that I've used frequently to make still cutouts, then used AE to animate the layers.
