Film Education

I was just wondering if any of you guys had recomendations for what Film Education is best.
I've done a year in university studying Bazin and peoples theories and I'm not too sure about doing another 3 years there. I'm looking for something more practical, is College a better Idea ?

Just hang around here and read everything you can, then try it to see if you can get it to work for you. Repeat. That's what I did.

Ya I've been reading this site for awhile, and I can tell ya, really good tips/info :P.
I'm just concerned about the whole, getting a job without a certain education. I'm looking for something more then a hobby, like I've just bought out a basement to build a studio and hopefully will stop making music videos and make actual artistic short movies (for now). So I'm just curious what kind of studies people from this site have gone through ?

Clumsy Cool, you are opening a Pandora's Box with this topic. I suggest doing a few searches to read all the past arguements and bannings that have come from this question. Good Luck!

Ah yes...the age old question

Definitely true.

Just to chime in briefly. I have a Master's of Fine Arts in film production and I was constantly re-evaluating why I was in film school during my seven years of studying film production/theory--4 undergrad, 3 graduate. The reason I stayed was because I wanted the ability to be able to teach film production at a university level in order to support myself while I worked on my own stuff...

So that's why I went but I have plenty of friends/colleagues who didn't go the same route and are doing perfectly well in the film industry right now.

There are pros and cons to each. Depends what aspect of film/movie making you want to get into long term, anyway. There are a lot of things a good ol' college degree mean nothing for when you have a killer reel and experience. (As an actor I can tell you no one ever asked to see my college diploma before casting me!). However, some more technical sided jobs may require a degree...or a connection...

Figure out first what you aim for and what direction you are going in. That may help make decision making easier.

PS
Don't forget to rinse.

yeah, if you want the ability to teach its a no brainer. you have to go to school.
