Film Casting Online

Other than Backstage, is there any other magazine, website, etc. that I need to place an ad in if I want to cast out of LA?

And also, do most people accept electronic headshots? I guess I should have said do most actors have electronic headshots/resumes?

I would rather go through stacks and stacks of stuff on a computer instead of the old fashioned way of renting a large mailbox for a month.

Any ideas? Suggestions??

There are many and the largest is by no means Backstage, its Breakdown Services. Some additional ones are LA Casting, Now Casting and many others. Is your project theatrical, commercial or stage? If its theatrical (film/TV) and you want to allow actors to be able to self submit (as opposed to agent/manager submissions) then you should use the Actors Access system from Breakdown Services. They are active (and have talent that uses their services) in every major market world wide. You could also use the services of a professional CD (casting director) and avoid a great deal of the hassles.

Most projects are not cast from casting notices, the first stage would be to cast from the files of the producer/director/CD, then if the role(s) are still unfilled, it would go out to agents/managers, then to professional actors via self submissions and at the very end an open casting call.

The relevant URLs for posting an audition notice are:

If you want more suggestions, please feel free to PM me and I will be happy to assist and can provide a few referrals to CDs if that is of interest.

Thank you very much. It has been ten years since I made a film and I have never cast "outside" of where I lived.

I am going to check out these resources you provided me, I think it should be enough to get me through, but if not, I will give you a holler.

Much thanks.

hey BAQUAJIM do you do Baqua martial arts

Yeah, I did at one time. The school focused primarily on the modern Wushu program, as opposed to a traditional program.

I have practiced several martial arts over the years, but due to moving, I have never really achieved any kind of skill level. When people ask, I usually say "not really" which means that I have done something, I am just claiming to have not done anything.

I was also learning some XingYi at the time too.

I loved baqua, but it required too much practice to be good at it. Of course, I can do like a lot of people and still take it and practice a couple hours a week. But to me, and this is just me, I felt like I was disrespecting the art.

However, the nickname stuck.

Thanks to all.

I have a notice coming out on castingnow.com.

Not only did they post a notice, but one of their people called to make some recomendations about my ad. I thought that was really nice of them to do that, after all, they could have just said: "look at this idiot's ad, he is screwed".

JIM whether it be one min. a day to 5 hours, it's in the heart.practice man practice there is no disrespecting an art if you are true to it and especially yourself

kimko - thanks. Maybe I will pick it up again. I would probably enjoy it more now that I don't really care to learn any actual fighting techniques.

khmuse - Yeah, you're right, it has been a long day. Thanks for tuning me into those places.
