Files too big

I just captured some video from DVX100a using Vegas. At 30 minutes the clip took up more than 6GB which seems much larger than it should be. What am I doing wrong?

Nothing. That's how big it should be. DV is about 12 GB per hour.

Is there a way to convert the video so it will take up less space?

Not at capture. You can do it after you bring it in to Vegas, but you'll lose quality if you do, and formats like MPEG or WMV are harder to edit, color correct, add effects to, etc. . .

In short, you want to stay in DV.
