Files lost from quicktime movie - why?

Hi, I'm having an odd problem....

I've made a short film a month ago and exported it as a quicktime movie (not using quicktime conversion but just the regular quicktime option) and then deleted all it's other files (render, capture scratch, etc...) to clear my harddrive. The QT movie still works and I can watch it no problem.

now...I did another short film the same way, saved and exported as QT movie then deleted it's capture scratch, render etc... files. but now that movie won't play! it says it's missing FIN-000002 or something, and "untitled 111" .

I don't get it. One movie works with no other files associated with it on my Harddrive, the other doesn't and says it needs those files.

what's wrong? or what can I do to geget it playing again without those files (they are long gone....deleted a week ago).

most of all...what went wrong so I don't do this again. ...now I can't re-relase the movie on DVD with the sound fixed and blooper reels like I wanted. as the QT movies (I made for iDVD) won't work.

Well, it sounds like the second time you didn't check the SELF CONTAINED box. Leave that unchecked and you get a QT REFERENCE movie...it references all the captured media. Toss that media, or try to open that clip on another computer without the media drive attached, and you get that error....missing files that it references.

You are going to have to rebuild the project...recapture and re-render everything.

ah, thanks. Yeah..I didn't click self contained.
It's not so bad...sucks but it was a very short project, almost a "test"/warmup film for the current one I'm in pre-production with right now. I'll leave it as it is..a memory or a bunch of clips on a mini DV tape. :)-
