files appearing in the trash! help!

hi, whenever I shutdown then restart my computer the trash is full even when it was previously empty. The trash I speak of it the desktop one for the mac (mac OSX, tiger op.system)

and in the trash are usually multiple files of my FCP movie....only they have all these numbers...almost like dates after them.
and I checked the file size, they're about the same size as my FCP movie...so having like 10 of them on my harddrive is bogging my system down.

I wonder, can I delete these files? Perhaps they are just old autosaves or something?

anybody?
 
They are old autosave files. Your FCP preferences are set to keep only so many, so once you have more than that set amount, they go into the trash. Actually a handy feature, as they don't actually erase them until you go in and manually empty trash. Autosaves can come in handy when project files become corrupt.
