File Storage Keywording

I am a photographer just having recently moved to full time video.

I am currently recording tons of clips about 20 minutes of length each. There are only certain useable, "juicy" segments within each 20 minutes clip. I finally decided I am going to keep the entire clips, but I now am struggling with keywording the files. Ideally, I will use segments from theses clips for years to come, so for example a cool shot of a guy on a motorcycle appears in one clip. Maybe there is a great shot of a couple smiling in the same segment. I want to keyword somehow to be able to find these in the future. The best solution I have come up with is to put each 20 minute clip in a folder and keyword the folder name, maybe "dramatic man on motorcycle couple smiling walking". But, there are quite a few useable segments in each clip.

This folder method seems sort of clumsy to me. I was wondering if any of you have methods where you are able to keyword video for future use, and I am sure you all deal with this.

Thanks for any input!

Thank you guys. I will try the metadata.

I actually switched directions too. I have been now shooting longer, one hour or so clips in 4k, and exporting out the interesting useable parts when I get home. Since the useable clips will just be 10 or so seconds, I will just keyword the file names.

I am still not sure if I am exporting the clips ideally, I would like clips that are good quality to lay into future project timelines, and a reasonable size. I have been exporting the 4k 30fps clips with h264 with a bit rate set to 15. I am all ears if someone has a better set of exporting settings, I do like the file sizes I am getting with this method though.

There no way I can shoot just the 10-15 second clips because the juicy bits are too spontaneous.

I'm curious to know if that is how you used to shoot photos? Did you just hold down the shutter button on Continuous Mode and then sift through the thousands of images later to find the keepers? Since you are new to video perhaps you are not aware that your approach to just rolling for hours at a time is very unconventional.

H.264 is a delivery format and not good enough for archiving, especially at 15 Mbps. That very low bit rate isn't even good enough for 4K delivery.
Ideally you should be archiving the "juicy" bits as ProResHQ or at the very least ProRes.

I'm not necessarily advocating that you only shoot a raw clip that is 10-15 seconds, but if your camera doesn't have a cache function(pre-record), get one that does. Set it for 5-10 seconds and you should be good.
