File Organization / Workflow tips

Hi, I'm just wondering how people go about organizing their DSLR footage (specifically with the AVCHD file structure).
Do you rename the clips in the file system first, or in premiere? And what do you do about the "private" folder structure? Especially for projects with multiple shoots across several days?

Really appreciate any tips, as my projects are rapidly becoming a nightmare to organize and keep track of

Thanks

I don't rename anything, either on the hard drive or in PP. Doing so in the past has caused nothing but headaches.

If you need to organize, use bins. (The new Search Bins feature in 8.1 update can help with this.)

I do rename, using Bridge in the past, but now Prelude as it has checksum verification. Renaming for me is a holdover from my days of shooting tape where you would name your footage as you captured it. Since I'm both cameraman and editor, I like looking through bins or at the timeline and knowing what day a project was shot, as I usually remember what was done that day. My naming convention is "Title_Day_Take.mov" ie L3_D05_007.mov In this case, It's Leap 3, Day 5, shot 7
