File handling in Vegas 8 pro

How do I tell Vegas to load video files from my DVX 100b to a single folder? Right now I end up with a bunch of takes in my "my documents" folder and have to create a folder and manually put the files in it.

Why does Vegas split and create "takes" even though it's one continuous scene?

Thanks,
BC

In the capture window, you can go into the preferences and change your file management settings. Then you can create a special folder for your project and it'll capture there. Vegas creates takes every time you start and stop the camera. If you don't like this feature, again, you can change the settings in the capture window preferences. I like this feature, especially for larger projects. It's nice to have all the takes instead of one long file that I have to chop down.

Thanks El D,

I hadn't noticed the preferences in the capture window. I'll check it out next time.

On the subject of Vegas splitting scenes during the capture process:
Vegas is splitting scenes regardless of the camera being started or stopped while shooting. Just wondering why Vegas does this?

The only other reason it would do it is if you're capturing to a FAT32 drive with a 4 GB file size limit.

Is it happening in 18-20 minute chunks?

It's 300gb NTFS internal drive. The splits don't seem to have any rhyme or reason to them. They happen at any time and seem to be random.

This is capturing from tape or capturing live video?

If from tape, are you getting dropped frames?

If live, are you sure the firewire connection is rock-solid?

Tape. Shot with a DVX100b and I use a Panasonic PV-GS80 for playback during capture to cut down on head ware on the 100b.

How can I tell if I'm getting any dropped frames? Everything seems fine during capture and there are no error messages.

BTW, thanks for trying to help me out with this.

Cheers,
BC
