Heyas.
I am editing a wedding video with Final Cut 7. I have footage from three different cameras, all shot with the same frame rate. One camera is a Canon HV 30, a Canon 7D and a 5D.
I know all about converting the 7D and 5D to formats I can use in Final Cut, that's done and I'm editing fine, but the other camera guys converted Apple Pro Res (HQ). They did this for the highest quality they could get, which I understand, but the file sizes are huge.
My question is:
In my experience, the final output file size will be pretty big, and the quality will be high if I don't compress. I will have to compress it down to be able to fit on a DVD, which I assume I will loose some of that "Super awesome quality" from the Pro Res (HQ)
So is there a file, a format, or a codec that I can use to compress the raw footage down now, so I will have smaller files to work with (saving disk space and resources) without loosing a terrible amount of quality, since I will be compressing after export anyway?
I don't think this video will ever be put on anything other than a HD TV, in other words it's not going to be converted to 35mm film if that matters at all.
And if this question makes so sense please tell me. I can handle most problems in Final Cut, but am still learning about file compression and codexes.
