File Compression

I'll confess, I've watched a few ripped movies. Now days you can download a awesome quality picture, 2 hour, HD-1080 movie that is only 2GB. That is only 17mb a minute. I cant even make 1 of my videos look as good as these at 60mb a minute. So what programs do they use for making this compression? I'm sick of having to upload large files onto YouTube. Or what do u recommend as settings

Deliver in 2.4:1 or smaller so that you only have 1920 x 800 pixels to compress? VBR 2 pass is good for getting nice images with small files.
