This is something me and my friends put together of the course of a week or two. The editting took a lil long with the roto... I realize that the lighting and composition leaves much to be desired but this was one of the first things Ive ever done with a video camera. I presented this to my entire school and they loved it. It was for the senior farewell and that I why it has a corny theme. It was done with a sony handycam (1 CCD) and some parts had a cheap tripod. The audio is not original by any means it was just something I added afterward to give it a dramatic feel. Click on that and press play up at the top right. Lemme know what you guys think. Im plannin on buying a DVX here soon I just gotta save up the dough cuz im starting to really get into cinematography. We may film a volume 3 over summer.

Before I make any comments what was your feel for the movie ? was it's suppose to be funny , serious , Parody of old school kung fu ? or suppose to be believable

Oh it was def. supposed to be a lil humorous i mean look at the acting and stuff(the light saber scene even) and well i mean there are some parts that are supposed to be like they are really anrgy at eachother but it is a very light tone...the voice overs wer meant to be like old style fight movies and well the moves are not by any means martial arts. So yes it is a very light tone and the acting was not the focus...

not bad. THe choreography was better than I had thought it would be, though sometimes the actors anticipated the moves coming at them. That's nothing a little more practice wouldn't fix though.

Ease up somewhat on the use of the slow mo. The first one worked, but as the clip progressed they almost became evenly paced and that got a little distracting. The effect itself was very smooth. very well done slow mo.

considering the length of the clip, the fact that it was a handycam, and the length of time you spent working on it (pre and post) it's a sturdy job.

The rotoscoping looked good. Not any flicker or odd movement. Did you use Ryan W's method on that?

nice one. Good fun with the short saber. I've had that happen, and it's not a good thing. The bad guys see yer little saber, and they just laugh and laugh.

Welcome to the forums.

EDIT: Consider using a compound blur in conjunction with the "glowing" effects. You'll be glad you did.

Ok if that's the case then I liked it and thought it was well done for what you were going for. Were the hand techniques sped up? I also second Rapier on the Anticipation

I'll third you guys on the anticipation but you have to remember they are not professional stunt men or fighters...just some classmates. Yes after seeing it a few more times having had it done I DID notice the overuse of the slow-mo and even heard that back from some other people. And Rapier, good eye, yes I did use his tutorial for that scene.

Not sure if I know what you mean by that...

1. I dont know what part you are talking about
2. Im not sure what a compound blur is

1. The parts of the clip where there were big white glows from the hands. Like when the one guy puts his hands on the other guys chest, for instance.

2. Since this is the After Effects forum, I figured you used After effect for your rotoscoping and glows.

If you did, lookup Compound Blur in the help menu. Apply one of your glows as an visual element like you have, but under it, use one as a compound blur matte for your main layer.
