Fight Scene in 'Snatch'

I still haven't figured it out yet, so i thought I'd see what other people thought. In the movie Snatch (By Guy Ritchie) how did they get Brad Pitt to fly backwards after being knocked down by the other boxer in the final fight scene. (Besides the obvious over-cranking) His fall back looks so surreal i wasnt sure if there was greenscreen involved or some other sort of mechanics.

I believe Brad was filmed underwater and composited.

His final knockdown was filmed in an underwater tank. I'm pretty sure Pitt was on a flat platform that they keyed out later. I think they explain that in the Making Of, but it's been a while since I've watched the movie and special features.

Just watched it. Apple DVD Player won't let me do screen grabs (weak!). I'm putting my money on a chair of some sort... his body movements in that scene look pretty mechanical.

hence why the light looked wrong.... i'd been wonering about that.....

Yes, Pitt is really separated from everything else in that scene... which would indicate that keying software was used over practical effects.

My favorite movie of all times. :D

Look at the extras on the disc. I think they used a water tank and a large crash-mat. No green-screen, they used practical effects, from what i know.

I will look att the extras later, will be back with to share how it was done.

For some reason Apple won't let you do the standard ctrl-cmd-3 / ctrl-cmd-4 when the DVD player is open. You can get around it by using a third-party screen grab app. I use SnapNDrag.

What do you guys mean by practical effects? Are practical effects done on set rather than than added in post?

thanks

Practical effects are pulled off on set! Hollywood always tries to make as much of the effects, presented in movies, as possible. You can never get the same realism when doing CGI effects.

CGI=Computer Generated Images

Thanks. For once when I assume something about a filmmaking term I'm not wrong. It reminds me of when I started gripping and the best boy asked me for a hamburger. Needless to say he wasn't pleased with what I brought him.

We are definatley lucky to have the DVD version of Snatch. But you could get it too! I bought it for 90 kr ( $12) at an electronics store here in Sweden.

Definatley worth it! Go buy Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barells aswell since that one is just as fun and perfect as Snatch is.
