Fig Rig with the HVX

Anybody have any experience with this? What is the maximum weight capacity of the Fig Rig?

Also, would someone please list some accessories to buy (in order of importance) for use with the Fig Rig?

I'm looking into buying one and I'm curious to know some of these details.

Thanks!

I have one and the camera fits nicely on it and is easy to use. Depending on if you plan to add a mic you need a clamp for that and the Varazoom controler would be a good thing to have to run the camera operations with.

Do I need the 595CLA Fig Rig Clamp to use the Varizoom RockPZFI controller? Or does the controller and/or Fig Rig come with the necessary pieces to attach them?

the varizoom has its own clamp. you'll own need the 595cla if adding accessories such as a mic, light or monitor.

I've been using the fig rig with the HVX200 and I love the setup. I have a few of the 595CLA clamps and a box of various adapters - 3/8 to 5/8 to 1/4 etc. I velcro on a couple Lectronics wireless receivers on the cross bar next to the XLR's. Other accessories include an LED Panelite which I use often for closeup fill. I highly recommend getting a Varizoom controller for zoom, iris, focus. It does not require a 595CLA clamp to attach to the ring. I also use a BO695 compact monopod attached to the bottom of the ring. I find that this works almost as well as a tripod.

I just did an HVX200 review for Digital Filmmaker (http://www.digitalfimmaker.net) and there's a picture of my fig rig.

Wow, Bill. Sounds cool.

Where are you located? I tried checking that link above but it didn't seem to work.

its not a steadycam - but its smoother then handheld - it basically makes the camera have a much wider turning radius giving it the feeling of the inertia of a larger camera - for the price and how quickly you can be up and running it is great

Thought I cut and pasted the link but anyway the correct link is:

One thing I've found very useful is to attach a compact monopod (15" closed) to the bottom of the ring. It acts as a nice counterbalance when closed and when opened the whole rig is nearly as stable and much more maneuverable than a tripod. It can almost act like a crane in some circumstances.

Having played around with the hvx200 for a day now I'mwondering if its a little too hjeavy for the fig rig. Any thoughts on this?

Also, how is it for zoom and focus?

It isn't to heavy, but get a varazoom remote control. it works like a charm for focus, zoom, start and stop and Iris control.

I think I'm sold on the Fig Rig, it might prove useful for a feature we're shooting this Summer. I was going to look at the DVRig Pro but the Fig Rig is half the price and money is getting tighter.

The DVrig pro is a way better device. It takes the wait off your arms and the HVX is heavy. The DVrig pro is not a steadycam but the middle spring loaded arm absorbs a lot of shock when walking with it.

Is it possible to get nice jib-style movements with the DVRig bgundu? I know with a bit of practice you can with the fig rig.

Not really. It will always feel handheld, but certainly smoother.
