Fig Rig vs. Spider 2

I own the fig Rig (sorry, haven't tried the spider2) and it's pretty useful for certain types of shots. For me, the Fig Rig shines when you don't have alot of time or control over the location (run and gun baby). You can walk up, get your shot and get out.
There's not a big learning curve with it - just walk heel to toe and you'll be fine.

Another recommendation here for the Fig Rig but once again I haven't used the Spider. Used the Fig Rig yeterday and found it very effective, at least as good as a shoulder mount camera for stability.

I would also throw the dv multi rig into the mix as a third option once it is release later this month. I am considering the merits of all 3 of these given their similarity in function and price point.

I just got a pre-production test unit of the DVMultiRig and must tell you that it is impressive. Did a little shooting with it right after getting it and found it to be versatile, stable, and well thought out.

I've tried both. Fig rig wins for me. I've heard fig rigs will give you a head ache if you use them too long. Something to do with the upper back muscles but I've not had a problem with it so far.

I'll agree that the fig rig does get heavy, Just the camera on the fig rig is a fair weight and you are holding it in a stressful position generally speaking. If you are going to add drives and mikes and lights to the rig it might become unworkable. I certainly wouldn't want to hold it in position for more than a couple of minutes.

The other thing that I have noticed is that the shadow of the fig rig is VERY distracting. One glimpse of the shadow and its 'what the hell is that thing?' shooting ENG style its not always possible to keep that in mind but you will kick yourself when you review yourshots.

I had looked at the DVRigPro but not the DVMultiRig. I may go with one of these.

Ned, is this sturdy when rigged like a Fig Rig? The Fig Rig has the advantage that both handles are actually part of a single solid tube.

Also, some of the photos on the site show some sort of a LANC attached. Does anyone know if the Varizoom Stealth or Rocker work well with the DVMultiRig?

Since many people who use the HVX want to do cinematic looking films and therefore use the M2 or other adaptors, keep in mind that you CAN'T use this combo with the fig rig. It's too heavy and will kill you.

6 people died today alone :)

I have the M2 and I've tried it with the Fig rig (it almost killed me).
I'm convinced that NOTHING but a tripod is right for the M2 setup.

Any remote will work with the DvRigPro or the MultiRig, they both have the same
grip handles.

Unless you use it hand held with a support pod. Like the EngRig support or
the MultiRig w/ support pod.

From one of the pics it looks like you can use the DVMultiRig in two hand Fig Rig mode and have the third handle underneath to attach to a monopod. Is this correct?

Is the third arm required for this, or can I just get the basic dual grip setup and connect the monopod where the support pod connects? Would this allow for the weight of an HVX to be centered over the monopod?

The monopod can be attached to the 3 grip MultiRig same as the camera plate, See photo.

We will have a simmilar arangment for the basic 2 grip version.
