Fig / Halo Rig - Remote zoom/iris/focus options and suggestions

For the Fig Rig or Halo, what success have you all had with various brands/models and setups? I am on an HPX170.

1) What brands? I have heard about the Varizoom all-in-one in a couple of forums and the place I would have rented from (if I don't end up buying) is using this, I think. On B&H, I see a Manfrotto zoom but does not appear to have focus/iris.

2) All-in-one zoom/iris/focus or separate zoom and iris/focus?

(last unrelated question: why mount the shotgun mic on the fig rig and not just leave it on the camera?)

Hey Joshua,

I have used the Libec zc-3dv on the Halo Rigs, no focus, iris though... I cant speak to the other models yet.

For the mic, its not going to make much difference. I suspect you can have a better shock mount mic holder on the top shoe mount over the built in camera shock mount. You also can get the mic a little further away from camera operation noises (if any).
