can somebody explain me how fields works?? upper and lower? when must be used? and when not? i heard they used when have a flick on the movie

Fields refer to the upper and lower fields (halfs) of interlaced video. NTSC SD video is 29.97 interlaced, which is comprised of two scans, one for odd lines of resolution, and one for even. These scans make up the the upper and lower fields of the video, also commonly refered to as interlacing. Usually you can see the effect around sharp edges, or areas of thin detail.

It's usefull to know about fields when comping because it will effect your overall comp on output, plus with many effects. To find out what the fields are on a particular piece of footage, import it into AE, then highlight it in the project window and hit Ctrl F and this will tell what you need to know.

thanks, what else can i ask!!!! hehehe, this is the only forum there i found whit very professional people who answer whit no problem principiant questions. thanks again

Just as an addition, HDV uses upper fields first. So as the other poster said, always match up the fields with whatever footage you are working with, in an interlaced project.
