has anyone used a widescreen format portable dvd player to use as a field monitor while shooting in squeeze? does it unsqueeze properly? does it provide decent color rep, etc?

I honestly think its a waste of time using one of those not enless a field monitor is an absoulte neccessity. If you have a DVX, use that instead. It's the cleanest monitor you'll have. To answer your question, the DVD player I have squeezes it when we used it as a monitor. I heard some portable players don't do it. I'm not sure. These electronics are sometimes weird.

A friend recently bought a DVD Player w/ 7" LCD with a battery for about $130, new.
What I don't get is why the 7" Panasonic LCD with battery is $1100. Ouch!!

Here's an area that needs some "indie innovation" along with the focus puller project...

I have the Polaroid 722 and it works fine but I only use the anamorphic. It has so many modes, my guess is that it will work. I think I did once switch it to electronic squeeze and it gave me a 2:25 ratio.
