I think the last film I worked on was my best yet. On trying to continue to better my recordings I have a few fresh questions. Thanks for any input.
1. Why is sound not included on location discussion? I showed up on the first day of scouting and was asked why I was there. I made effort to explain but was lost in the chaotic pre-production activities. Whats the history behind this? I even sent that "open letter from sound mixers to production" to the director on the internet and received little response.
2. Why is sound not included when unique situations arise. I was notified the day before that we were going to use 7x7d cameras to shoot 7 scenes at the same time for a phone conversation. Luckily I have great friends and was able to get a laptop boom recorder set up ready over night and 7 hypercardiod mics as well.
3. Do these problems relate to my level of assertiveness and disposition? My knowledge of pre-production communication, maybe lack of tonal urgency in my voice? Do I need to bring a tazer
4. I'm all about using the boom and realize that putting lavs on talent is more of for show in most cases except in complicated shots. I've also realized that talking to green DP's about lowering the frame can actually work(very sensitive matter though). But how do you boom a situation where two people are talking, one of them bends down at a desk or away from the sweet mic spot while talking and it still sound consistent like a boom. I've seen it on big budget and just wondering how they get such consistent audio.
Thanks!
That's it for now
