Fellow Business Owners in Virginia

I have just registered my husband and I's business as an LLC. I have been working through a non profit women's business center for direction and support. They've been great and have really helped me get the ball rolling. I am at the point where I have my business plan and have registered with the state and the IRS. Now here comes the questions...I am registering with the Dept of Taxation in Virginia. In the eyes of the law and state taxes do we provide a service and or product? We are in the business of videography and editing. I have been unable to find a company in our area that could shed some light on this question. Thank you for your consideration and excuse my lack of knowledge on this subject.

When I was going through the process -- I called the Dept. of Taxation and they said if you sell individual products (ie DVD's) for sale -- obviously then each product needs to have sales tax.

But if you lump/bundle those DVD copies with a production service then you don't have sales tax on the individual units. (ie. provide video production services to include "x" copies of the final product).

Hope this helps.

Now what if you have a bulk stack of DVD's that you are selling out of book bag, trunk of your car, or flea market (you get my point) do you have to charge tax on that too? I just started a business August 1st and was wondering about that. I know everything I sell online is being tracked I guess since I had to give the site my EIN number. So the DVD's I sell out of my bag so to speak is that what they mean by "under the table" money? Funds that don't get reported?
