Feild Monitor Software?

Hey,

I need to add a field monitor to my evergrowing video equipment,
and I am trying to keep my expenses down, (aren't we all?)
...anyways, I came across an article talking about using a MAC laptop
with a software application (DVDxDV).

It seemed like a great way to combining something that I own with an application
and getting something useful at a fairly cheap price.

I realize that a CRT monitor is going to produce the most accurate results,
but has anyone had any experience with any of these software monitor applications?
Any feedback about using a laptop as a monitor would be greatly appriciated.

Thanx,

Todd

A field monitor is an essential after you've owned and or shot with one. I have DVRack on a macbook pro and I have been fairly happy with it. The monitor itself can be calibrated to you get "close" to accurate colors...the vetroscope and wave monitors are great tools to have! I use the wavemonitor habitually at this point. The only beef I have is that you never know what additional noise your getting due to the laptop producing it. With the HVX it's really important to be able to monitor how much noise is there since it is such a noisy cam. I'm getting used to just assuming, but that's not always safe. All in all if I could afford it the panny field monitors would be the way to go, but on a budget the DVrack is a great tool. I definately don't regret getting it.

Thanx for the input, I really appriciate It...
I think that is the way I am going to go,
at least until I can afford a real monitor>
