Feeling really stupid

I know this topic has been covered but, I have an aspec ratio issue.
I shot footage at 720p 30 [16 : 9] , Yet I see the two black bars top and bottom , while viewing a digital video projection, I ticked the box in capture seting for anamorphic and that just squeezed the bejesus out of the image.
How do I view this image as it was shot [ 16:9] .
the final image will be seen on a wide plasma screen , will the image be cropped on the plasma screen too .

I just import instead of caputuring, but I believe you shouldn't have checked the anamorphic setting. that could be causing this problem.

hope someone with a similar workflow can help you more, though.
