Hello there I am inviting actors from around the world to get involved in our mumblecore disaster film: White Out (www.whiteoutthemovie.co.uk)

WHITE OUT
INTERNATIONAL VIDEO CALLOUT!
The backdrop: White Out is a film set in a pre-apocalyptic near future. In the UK, winter snows have failed to lift all the way into July – this has led to price hikes in food and other goods, fuel shortages and huge job losses. The cracks in civilization are showing in other countries also – climate changes, recessions, rising crime as poverty rises, prohibitively expensive fuel, water shortages, famine – general and mounting disorder.
As the film progresses, we also see the spread of an unidentified, lethal pandemic. And as this illness spreads, so we also see that the institutions we once relied on are now all but powerless to help. No one answers 911 calls anymore.
Our main character in White Out, John Hanson, is a keen blogger and conspiracy theorist who runs a website called 'the trojan horse' '. Through this website he informs members of the website of things in Scotland with regular video diaries, and learns of happenings elsewhere by watching videos submitted by other members.
And we want you to be those members! So what we need is for you to imagine you are living in a world teetering on the verge of collapse and shoot your own set of video diaries commenting on the state of things in your part of the world.
THE SPECIFICS
You can either play yourself supplanted in this shaky pre-collapse world or invent your own character. However, characters you invent should be everyday, believable people as the film has quite a real, documentary feel to it.
There are four places in the film where video contributions feature so we need four separate recorded updates from you all! Here is roughly how they should play out (but feel free to be inventive within the realms of believable possibility!)
1) Discuss some of your character’s views on the government, on climate change, on the recession and society in general. Remember you are a member of a mildly anarchic website and so will take quite an interest in these things. For inspiration you can check out this documentary which is very depressing J

2) Comment on the general state of things where you are – subtle hints that all is not running as smoothly as it did. Talk about specifics like rising food prices, no gas in the stations, no jobs, benefit cuts, unusual weather. The cracks are starting to show generally – think of little anecdotes that can show this. Like say your sister hurt her knee but the hospital was closed, or you live far away from your parents but can’t afford the high cost of flights.
3) Things have deteriorated fast. Some of you are on rations, some of you have seen looting. Crime is rising along with poverty and desperation. The post has stopped coming. You’re scared and worried about loved ones. It’s hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel but some of you may try. Some of you are panicked. You might be sick or be looking after others who are. There is no one to help. They are dizzy, nauseous, vomiting – seems like a bad flu or bug for now. Some of you may have tried to protest against the government’s lack of response but, many times, it seems the governments have abandoned their posts. There is nothing they can do. Everybody is on their own now. In other countries police have become a force to control looting and little else. They are to be feared by rather than protectors of the public. Some of you will have seen unsettling things. You’ll all be desperate for more information, angry at what the world has come to, and afraid for yourself and your loved ones.
4) Total collapse. Those of you who were ill in diary 3 will be much worse now. Those looking after sick loved ones may now have seen them die. No public services are running. Electricity and water come on only erratically. Crime and looting are rife. Some of you will be hiding in your homes afraid of looters – others will have looted out of desperation. You will look to the website as your window into the world as the TV and radio are dead. The internet is still running for now, but probably not for long. You’re hopeless, terrified, hungry, maybe fearing for your life. Some will be philosophical, detached, others will be self-righteous – saying they saw it coming – you all wonder how mankind can come through this – how you and your family can.
TO CONCLUDE!
So yay! All very cheery! Once your videos have been recorded, email and we’ll figure out the best way to get them to us. Also we’ll be asking you all to sign simple release forms just to give us permission to actually use the footage. We’ll do our best to include everyone in the film but if we get tons and tons of videos it might not be possible. Again, we’ll do our very best.
