Feature Logging Question

Hi guys,

I'm currently logging and capturing a feature film in FCP. I make a bin in FCP for each scene, and log clips to that bin. I'm running into the problem of having clips from different scenes with the same name. For example, in one scene I have GRAHAM CU 3....and then in another scene I want to capture a clip with the same name. However, when I do this the computer understandably wants to overwrite the clip from the other scene with the clip from this scene with the same name. My question is this: Is there an easy way to differentiate these clips without having to reset the scratch disks for every scene, or put the scene name in the clips details? Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

or put the scene name in the clips details?

Why in the world would you not want to put the scene name in the clip details? That's typically how it's done. I usually breakdown my films into scene number, then shot number, and then take number, followed by a brief description if necessary.

Yes. Just "Sc12Sh4Ta2" Or "BarScene2ShotTake2" works for me. You could do "Sc4GrahamCUTake2", or bag the takes and do "Pool Scene GrahamCU"

Jim has some good advice. Like anything else, you need to give some serious thought to how you are going to arrange things. At the very least, since scripts are generally separated into scenes, you might want to think about annotating your clips with a scene number then locating all the shots for a particular scene in its own folder. You can then bring those folders into FCP as bins.
