Feature Film Lighting

All good!

BTW have you had the chance to use the Arri M18 yet? Amazing light. So much punch for the power draw, and so flexible in application. They've become a staple of my packages.

I have had the pleasure of working with it; fantastic light. I don't use it very often as a DP, unfortunately, as most of the time the budgets on the shows I am shooting are very low.

The Joker 1600 though...now there's a light. Same output as the M18, less power consumption, works better for slow-motion applications, just all around better fixture.
I haven't had a chance to use the 1600 joker yet. How is it size-wise compared to the 800?

Charles. Im ignorant of big lights - so you use corrected tungsten outdoors a lot - seems inefficient?

S

Zoinks! No. HMI's for day exteriors, tungsten for interiors/night exterior...the usual.

Now I'm sorry I opened my fat mouth! Which part was misleading?

I start shooting my 3rd feature film in 2 weeks, and right now my light kit is:

1x 1kw, 2x 650w, 1x 300w Fresnels, 2 750 DP lights. Which isnt alot, and everything is tungsten so daylight will be an issue.

So for only a few hundred bucks, I stocked up on my foamcore, lots of CT/CB/ND gels, China balls.

And a huge part of our film is diagetic lighting, so we have lots of practicals, fire, double wick candles.

Here is an awesome article Shane Hurlburt wrote about using just 2 lights: not the same lights you or I am using, but use the lesson.
