What just happened? seriously? i was just wondering if someone could explain to me what just happened after a hard trip with that movie.

Hunter S. Thompson or Duke Raoul as he is called in Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas made a film about his unique type of journalism, known as "Gonzo Journalism." Gonzo Journalism is the art or taking as many narcotics as you can and then reporting on sports events while staying as high as you can. Hunter S. Thompson created and perfected this art until he killed himself earlier this year while high on LSD. It was a sad day but an amazing funeral and we remember him in his thousands of books, years of gonzo style journalism and of course the movie for which he is most famous. In the movie it shows the true story of how Gonzo journalism takes a turn for the worst. and thats about it.

My Critereon edition of Fear and Loathing is one of the highlights of my DVD collection.

I remember the first time I saw this movie. About 20 minutes into it, I was appalled. I hated it! Then I started chuckling...then laughing out loud....and then I started loving every minute of it (and yes, I was sober the whole time).

It's hilarious. I think Gilliam nailed it, though it's not a film for everyone.

I Saw It. And I Can Only Imagine That Depp Had Him Down To A Tee But For Me It Wasn't Entertaining Enough Or Should I Say I Couldn't Relate. Maybe The Murray One Was More Over The Top That I Could Relate From My Own Drug Haze Days

I've seen Fear and Loathing a million times and everytime I watch that movie you see something different. I think its brilliantly done. There speaking in a different language... Its like drug language.

I saw Thompson speak in Boulder in 1989. As was his m.o., he was over an hour late, and mostly drunk when he arrived (fortunately, we were too). Depp nailed that role. The movie was very true to the book, too.

ya if you watch it high, all the language makes sense but at the same time it doesnt. what was so interesting is that everything they say ISN'T funny when you are high, but when you watch it sober it just seems humourous. how they got anywhere was beyond me,; they don't actually convey ideas but just jumbled words, and they just zone in and out of reality. how they ever communicated with anyone outside of themselves is crazy. i can say that i didn't laugh once when i first saw it stoned because i just had my jaw dropped the entire time. it shows that the idea of language, conversation, and action (cause/effect) is so subjective to every living thing in the universe, and how conditioned we are to act a certain way, believe everything we see, and put emphasis on intellectual conversation. Life is so intense.

Why is it always the stoners who think they have the mystical answers to the universe?

I thought trhe movie was great and very faithful to the book. And the use of short lenses....Man some of the best wide angle stuff out there. Great shots.
