FCS2--Color with AGP x800XT graphics card?

Has anyone tried running Color with an older dual 2GHz Power PC with an ATI Radeon x800XT in the AGP slot? I know the processor is adequate, but the system requirements for Color list all of the standard cards for the later Power PCs with PCIe slots without indicating whether any non-standard AGP cards will work. The x800XT was the fastest card available for AGP. I suspect that the faster PCIe graphics slot is required, but wanted to see if anyone has tried this. I would prefer to wait until the next round of MacPro updates before getting a new system.

Thanks,
Kevin

the x800 will work... I don't know what the performance is like. I'll let you know once I get my upgrade delivered.

Man, oh man. I am really frustrated. The x800 does not even fall under their suggested requirements, and that is the most an AGP bus can max out on. Not even to mention that finding one of these cards is next to impossible. I certainly cannot afford to take the risk of receiving some flashed card.
Why are the AGP slot computers so limited in regards to upgrades as compared to the PCI? IS is because of RoHS?

So it seems that in order for me to use color I have to get a new computer. It's not like a 2.0 GHZ Dual processor G5 is that weak of a computer. I am f*cked.

Even worse, getting a new computer isn't that much of an upgrade at this point from what I have. :(

Actually a new Mac Pro Intel would be a *huge* upgrade over what you have now but it's up to what you have the budget for.

Well any of the currently shipping Mac Pro's would be a huge boost over a Dual 2.0 G5. Specifics here:

http://www.apple.com/macpro/intel.html

And those figures are comparing to a quad 2.5Ghz G5 which is already more than double your system's throughput. Of course the 8-core Mac Pro would be the most significant upgrade though it would set you back around $4K.

To put it in perspective, had you wanted the version of Color that comes included with FCS 2 a year ago, it would have set you back $25,000. So again it comes down to budget and what the scale of your needs are.

For me, a new machine once a year or more is just part of doing business. But if it's not a day in day out paid gig I could understand wanting to squeeze out every penny from your current system. Chances are if you really *required* Color for everyday work it would not be an issue. It is a tempting toy nonetheless.

I got my hands on a Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL. I am about to install.
I'll report on its performanc as soon as I receive software.
