FCS2 and MacBook Pro?

Hey guys,

I'm seeing some really good deals on MacBook Pros (2.33ghz) on ebay at the moment (people selling one's they've just bought), Would a dual-core MacBook Pro with 2gb of RAM be enough to edit HD and do basic vfx on Final Cut Studio 2? If I can get a laptop for $2,500 as opposed to a Desktop (Quad-core Mac Pro) for $3,900, that will still have the performance I need to do video editing, I'd be stoked!

Thoughts?

careful on ebay.

from apple.com/store directly, using an educational discount, a 15" MBP Core (2) Duo, with 1gb Ram, (cheaply upgraded to 2gb through 3rd party) and 256mb video ram can be had for 2500.

NEW gaurunteed.

OR

refurbs.

I can edit HD and do basic FX on my Powerbook G4 (1.33 GHZ, 2 Gig's of RAM). The Macbook Pro is at least 8x as fast and has a 256 Graphics Card (mine has a 64).

It will be MORE THAN FAST ENOUGH. It is slightly more powerful than a G5 Dual-Core. Just make sure you max out the RAM if you can.

If you can wait a month or two, Apple is due VERY SOON (can't be any later than WWDC) to update the entire computer line.

I've been editing 720p on my 15" MBP with 2GB RAM on two FW HDDs, and NO problems whatsoever. In the office I've got a DP 2.0 G5, and I'd have a hard time telling which is faster.
