FCS@ and monitor

When you have a 17" Macbook pro and FCS2 :
  • is it usefull/necessary to have a second monitor for edditing ?
  • which size is best the apple 23" or 30" when using it on a desk
  • is it possible to have the edditing interface on the MBp4ro only and the resulting output on the 23/30"monitor?

You might want to check apple's website - I'm not sure whether the Macbook Pro supports the resolution required for the 30" display

1. If the MacBook Pro is going to be your main editing machine, I'd look into getting an additional monitor.

2. Don't know how large a screen the laptop will support, but if you are just using the monitor to watch your work, I'd say a 23" is plenty big.

3. Yes, you can send the video to a second screen just like you would send it to an NTSC monitor via firewire. It's in the View->External Video menu. With an additional display connected, you should have the option to send the preview video there. This method is fine for rough cuts and simply getting a larger canvas. But, as I'm sure you know but I will point out again, a computer monitor has a higher color resolution than a TV, so you won't be seeing the correct image (ie, whites that look fine on the computer will blow out on a regular TV). For final color verification, I'd recommend getting a NTSC monitor as well. I use a 10" field monitor which is big enough to verify color but not so huge that it takes over my desk.

Hope this helps. :)

That I can't help you with. I'm still on a 23" and probably won't get any bigger - though I may add another 23" when I finally go up to a Mac Pro.
