FCPX won't let me "Share" a project

I just finished five days of no sleep putting together a big video for a client. However, when I go to try to "Share" it, all the selections are greyed-out except the "Add Destination." I added a destination, but no luck. A smaller video using some of the same material does not have the same problem. I've checked all the background tasks and they seem to be complete. I've exited out of FCPX and gone back in, no help.

I'm running it on a late 2013 iMac with a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5 and 24 GB of RAM. Some of the input footage is 4k, but the output is 1080. the aforementioned smaller video had some material from the 4K camera and there are no problems with it. The video is about 16 minutes long with about 400 scenes.

Help! If I can't get this thing out of the computer I'll get sued! Any suggestions? -DA

There are all kinds of media. My two main cameras are a Sony FS700 shooting HD 60i (except for some slo-mo) in AVCHD, an old Vixia HF G20 shooting AVCHD, and the 4K stuff was shot with a Panasonic Lumix LX100 in .MP4. I am also using material that was sent to me over the web, PSA video from a university and footage from a drone pilot I hired.

There are some time-lapse sequences, but I used a totally different library and event to create those, and exported them in a .MOV file for use in this project. Also, when I was new to this and didn't know any better, I would download AVCHD videos as separate files, and while some of those files are incorporated into the problem video, when I put them into the test video there are no problems.

Import settings are "proxy" and "leave files in place." The files are on an external LaCie Thunderbolt drive. I know I know what you mean by "performance," but right now my brain is too fried to remember.

What I'm doing now is this-- Within that same event is a project I put together for the client when the job was about 3/4 of the way through, to show the client how things were coming. That project can still share. I am in the process of taking all the files from outside sources, putting them into that project, and seeing if it will allow me to share. So far I have loaded all the outsourced material or even material from my cameras that seems balky into that project. I've just finished the first round of that, and so far it can still share, which tells me that the outside material seems to be OK.

One more question-- I have saved the project as a snapshot. When I am eliminating the clips to see which ones are messing things up, would it be better to work on the snapshot or the main project file?

Any other suggestions for tracking down the source of the problem? Does FCPX have a limit to the number of clips/scenes? Right now the clip count is 446, and I'm not completely sure what the count is in the timeline, but it's probably about 600 at least. Am I asking the hardware and software to do too much? Is there any way I can get it to tell me what it doesn't like?

OK, solved the problem. Very strange what was happening. There was one clip I imported, and when I opened FCPX a second time, it showed a "missing camera" icon where the clip should have been. I re-imported the same clip, BUT when I did that, it automatically showed up back on the timeline as well. I did not need to pull it down from the clip library to the timeline again.

Subsequently, on start-up FCPX kept automatically re-connecting this particular clip, and it looked like everything was OK, but apparently it wasn't. On start-up, for a brief time the clip would show up as a missing camera, then re-connect. That stuck in my mind, and so on a hunch I tried trashing that particular clip and all timeline cuts from it. That did the trick. Fortunately I had another clip that was almost identical, and I was able to use that clip with no problems. -DA66
