FCPX - Motion round tripping

The one thing I really miss from FCP 7 is the ability to round trip, I love to throw clips around in the timeline and then the ability to just send to motion for a bit of work would be nice.

Yes i know I can put a clip in a new timeline and export etc for motion etc, but its a pain in the ass. I suspect the round tripping feature was already coded in FCPX 10.0.0 and will appear in version 10.9.0 or 10.1.2 - but now would be good.
I feel like starting the round tripping campaign, encouraging others to send back some feedback.

sadly missing round tripping

Have you tried using ClipExporter? They just made it a free download:

It should solve the issue of getting your clips out of FCPX and into Motion... I do feel your pain. I use round tripping in almost every FCP7 project I have... so I need it to be functional before I ever consider seriously using FCPx

I did hear about that, but my understanding was that it created an XML rather than a QT clip, thou I could be wrong, anybody out there used clip exporter for round tripping

I haven't personally tried it, but on the website it says this... "Exports raw video clips as Quicktime reference or self-contained movies. These files can be opened in other applications like Mocha, Motion, PFTrack etc."

If I have time tomorrow, I'll give it a try.

It looks like you first have to export an XML - then from the XML it extracts a Quicktime reference movie. Then they have another utility that takes a reference movie and makes a standalone file. Why they can't give you the option of doing it in one go I really don't know!

I have a feeling the code for this functionality already exists and is currently coded into FCPX and will eventually appear one of Apples updates.

to all (if you have 2 min free) please feel free to send some polite feedback to Apple asking them to implement it ASAP....and happy xmas to all :-)
