FCPX exporting slow but CPU usage is low

I am using an 8 core Mac Pro (early 2009 base model) and export is taking very long (2 min video clip is taking more then an hour )
I looked at the CPU usage and it is barely being used. only about 9%....
is there something I have to do so the cores kick in and help the export?

btw, made a slideshow with lots of motion so rendering is still not fully done.
 
If you are rendering extra motion that's being calculate frame by frame then I'm afraid that will take a LOT longer than rendering video.

The reason your CPU is not being used much is that FCPX is leveraging the GPU to do the heavy lifting. If your GPU is 'old' then it's probably not very efficient.
