FCPX and Compressor 4 not happy together!

I am trying to send a project to compressor 4. When I start the conversion process, it does nothing. It acts like its going to try and encode the file but it just sits there increasing the time remaining number. I have tried trashing pref, reinstalling...all the basics that most of the help sites give you. I am at a loss here. Can anyone help?

You have to wait until a full moon, or you need to slaughter a chicken while standing inside a circle of salt.
I've seen that encode hang before, but it usually doesn't repeat once you try again. Try a different smaller video clip of identical format and see if that hangs too. Try scenarios that change the parameters until you can repeat the problem on another clip and you'll have a clue to the cause.
Another thing just occurred to me...you are giving it a few minutes, right? When you first start a file, it will increase the time until it knows what it's doing, then the time remaining goes back down.

How are you sending it to Compressor? Have you exported (Shared) a Master File and tried that in Compressor? If that works then Compressor is fine. If it works in Compressor, then I assume you've added the desired Compressor setting to the Destinations in Share in FCPX. If sharing to a Compressor Destination from FCPX doesn't work, and you've reinstalled (being careful to delete prefs as well) I don't really know. I did have a problem with Compressor 4 because I still had Compressor 3 installed. Make sure that is not the case.

Thanks for the reply. I have given it up to 6 hours to get started and...nothing. I am sending it straight to compressor from FCPX. I can export a file from FCPX and then bring it to compressor and it works fine. It is just another step I have to add in my work flow. I can live with it, but for the last year, I have sent straight to compressor from FCPX. Just curious what is going on.

It's a good idea to output first before going to Compressor. Keep that intermediate file as an archive. Trust me. It's pretty hard to relaunch an old project and expect everything to line up, let alone be there, so having an uncompressed full length mov file is a good safety.
