Used to be a button at bottom left of screen next to index that when pressed would display all open timeline projects,
anyone know where it went?!

Click and hold on the forward and back arrows and a little menu pops up with currently opened projects. Is that what you're looking for?
That being said, FCPX 10.1 works differently than 10.0.9 and earlier, so there's no longer a big "Project Index" you need to open up. Projects are now stored inside events within their respective libraries.

Tried your shortcut but I'm on a small keyboard so didn't work,
i think it was the "project index" i meant, used to bring up a stack of all open timeline projects to choose between
I set up a smart collection to hold all projects for each library now but liked the quick visual access that function used to offer, oh well
