FCP5 not recognizing dvx

With the exact same set-up, I can playabck through imovie, no problem. I just ran disk utillity and repaired all permissions as well, but with FCP it is saying it doesn't detect the external device. Any help appreciated...
 
Hook up the camera to your system via firewire.

Make sure camera is turned on and is set to vtr mode(vcr mode as opposed to record mode)

turn on Final Cut.

Open Audio/Video settings. Click Device Control Preset check Firewire NTSC.

click Video Playback check Apple Firewire ntsc(780x480).

It should work. If still problems, click View scroll down to bottom and click refresh a/v devices.
 
I did exactly that and nothing. I think I have some software problems as it proceeded to quit itself. Thanks though.
 
I had the same problem with my g5, I was using the firewire through the port on
the front of my computer but when I used the port on the back it worked fine.
 
Hmmm, well I only have one firewire port on this g4 powerbook... is there a usb 2.0 connection?
