FCP4 wont capture 24pa...

I started to capture a particular scene from a short film I'm working on and everytime I hit capture now... the little apple wheel pops up and spins and spins... I eventually have to force quit FCP4 and some times even restart my computer. I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm using the remove pulldown 23.98 capture setting and have my sequence set to ntsc 23.98. I think all my settings are correct. My comp is a dual 1 ghz g4 w/ 1 gig of ram.

Oddly enough, the same footage with the same settings captured fine on my powerbook.

Any suggestions? Is it my comp or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Re: FCP4 wont capture 24pa...

Do a repair permissions on your system.
Are you using the DVX for the capture or a cheaper camera?
Is everything the same as PowerBook? (Check to make sure you've got Non Drop Frame and original footage was in 24pa mode)
Have you updating FCP to the latest version?

I'm using the DVX for capture... unless one of you fine people would like to donate a deck *lol*

I'll check my settings tonight and let you know. My tower might not be set to NDF. Not sure.

I havent updated. Both systems are using 4.0.

Since the update is free you might as well download it. FCP HD fixes some problems in FCP 4

Re: FCP4 wont capture 24pa...

Do you mean FIREWIRE NDF... or something else? MY powerbook is not set to FIREWIRE NDF yet it captures and works perfectly.

Re: FCP4 wont capture 24pa...

You don't need it to be NDF to capture but any timecode you use to log will be off. (i.e. if you input timecode for the capture the section captured will be wrong)

This is in the Capture prefs for FCP.

Re: FCP4 wont capture 24pa...

Jordan,

You need to log your clip and then do a batch capture. There have been some issues with using the 'capture now' button when trying to do the pulldown. If you log the clip and then do a batch capture it should solve your problem. Otherwise you may have to capture it at 29.97 and then remove the pulldown with Cinema Tools after the capture.

I hope that solves your issue.

Re: FCP4 wont capture 24pa...

Aparently, the optimum settings for capturing 24pa is to capture at 29.97 with pulldown since it's really 60i. But then you should set your sequence to be 23.98 with playback using pulldown 2:3:2:3.

But I haven't nailed this one down yet either:)
