FCP4 on a PCI computer using "hack"?

Another quick question,
I was basically given a G4 with 400mhz and 256kb ram and PCI graphics. As I started investigating what it would take to run FCP4 on it, I found out that in addition to upping the ram and probably the processor, I would in fact have to change out the whole logic board b/c FCP requires AGP graphics. While looking at new logic boards, I came across this information about a "hack" that allows G4s like mine with PCI graphics to run FCP 4. Here is the link:

Does anyone know about this? Would it actually work? If it would, it would save me having to mess with a whole new logic board ($300-400).
Just wondering.
Thanks
Nathan

Re: FCP4 on a PCI computer using "hack"?

First of all, how worth it to you is it to have FCP run on this machine? Even if you do this hack, and it works without screwing up your computer, it's going to be just about the slowest possible way to run FCP.

The hack may well work (they often do, although you have to be really careful), but it was probably done more as an exercise by some geek who was really bored one day than it was to actually have FCP run useably on the machine.

So unless you're not at all confident that you'll be doing this more down the road, I'd seriously consider buying another machine.
