FCP4 <> FCP5

I have not yet taken a look at FCP5, but I was wondering, did they make the FCP4 interface compatible with the FCP4 interface. Another words, any projects I have in FCP4, can I open and edit in FCP5, and vice versa. J/w cause I would like to upgrade, but the projects I work on will be transported through a portable HD to other computers which are outfitted with FCP4

FCP has never been backwards compatible. Older projects can be opened in newer versions but not vice versa. For example, if you open an FCP 4 project in FCP 5 and save it you will no longer be able to open it in FCP 4.

Yes you can open a FCP 5 file in 4.

You must export in FCP 5 first however, which can be troublesome. Export file as XML, version one. You will be able to open it in early as 4.1
