FCP X Workflow Question

So, I finally broke down and I'm switching from FCP 7 to FCP X. I've been doing a bunch of tutorials and so far, I have to say, I love what I've seen.

I do have a workflow question and wanted to see if what I'm planning makes sense.

I use FCP in my filmmaking classes for Kids and Teens. Each class last 10 weeks and each week the students work on a new film.

So, I am thinking of creating a new Event for each class (that will hold all the footage for the class). Then I will create a new Project for each film. At the end of each session we also create a blooper reel from all the films and I think having all the footage in one Event will make this easier. When the class is over, I can then archive the event and associated projects to an external hard drive.

Does that sound like the right way to go?

Thanks a lot,

Chris

For better or worse, I've done the above and it seems to work well and keep things organized. I'll post again if this layout/workflow causes and issues.

Yeah if it's just one movie and we're not talking thousands of clips- one Event should work fine.

Yeah if it's just one movie and we're not talking thousands of clips- one Event should work fine.

Each event will actually contain clips for about 6 - 9 short films (only about two minutes each). I am using keywords to sort the clips for each film and identify the bloopers across all the films. These bloopers will then get cut together into one blooper reel (which spans all the films).

So far, it's working great!

What's the total number of clips- there is a point where an Event can degrade performance when it gets too big.
