FCP X work on 32 bit or ONLY 64 bit machines?

Hi
Does anyone know if the new FCP X will run on older iMacs? I have a 32 bit imac, and am concerned that, just like the latest After Effects, I might not be able to run FCP X.

Are you talking about a PowerPC Mac? Those are 32-bit. Any Intel-based machine would be 64-bit.

Ah I see- that's a good question. I'm sure Apple will publish the exact system requirements when they release the software and you'll find out then whether you need to upgrade or not.

If your Mac is more than a couple of years old, I would plan on upgrading. And even if it's more current, I'm betting that FCP-X will want more memory & a faster GPU than FCP 7.

Any Core2duo or Intel Mac Pro workstation should do it. Those are 64bit. The rest will likely not be supported. It will likely also require OSX 10.5 or higher.

I would assume the specs to be similar to running CS5 adequately, which means at least a quad core with 8GB RAM.

But if the latest OS supports both, couldn't they also make software that supports both 32 AND 64 bit? Just hoping...

OSX 10.6 only supports 64bit. (Well...it can run 32bit code still...that's true). It's highly likely that 10.7 will be the same.

Sorry, I don't think that is correct. Not sure if the installer detects whether you're machine is 32 or 64bit on install, but I AM running 10.6 and my machine IS 32 bit.
Processor - Intel Core Duo NOT Intel Core Duo 2

Interesting eco bach. I stand corrected then. You're right, 10.6 can boot in either a 32bit kernel or 64bit kernel. I guess we'll have to wait and see...
