FCP X quick green screen test

This was just a quick green screen test I did with my AF100 and FCP X, using only one LED light:

Sorry it's not properly lit because I only have one light at the moment.

But please let me know how the chroma key looks and what I can do to improve my chroma keying.
I used FCPX's built in chroma key feature. I'll try doing another test, with a properly lit scene.

Just wanted to see how FCPX handles chroma keying. I didn't think FCPX did that bad a job considering that I did not light the scene properly.

Thanks in advance for any advice / feedback.

That looks pretty good to me, I'm thinking about picking up FCPX for some chroma work too. What kind of light did you use?

BTW- if you nest the clip and background into a compound clip and then do your fades on that your background and foreground will fade together naturally. Assuming that's what you want.

Hi Francheezie, thank you. I used a single Litepanels 1x1 5600K Flood.

Hi Noahk, thanks also for the tip. Actually I did that way intentionally, I wanted to fade in the background afterwards. But I think it would have been better to show the original green screen background at the beginning instead of the black.

Not sure why, but it looks like I see buzzing or pixelization going on around the fringe of my hair in that video.

The only tweaking I did with the FCPX chromakey was to kill the holes (by moving the slider) that showed up inside the white area of the black/white matte. Other than that, I didn't touch anything else in the chromakey. Should I have tweaked it a little more, using the other sliders???

was the source 4:2:2 or 4:2:0?
I am going to test chromakey with GH2 (at 24p can record only 4:2:0). Does anybody know how to make edges look good with 4:2:0? Does converting to ProRes 422 helps?

Source was 4:2:0 but I'll be doing another test on Friday again with my AF100 and my hacked GH2 using Kae's extreme 65Mbps hack. Should be interesting to see the difference. Will post this weekend.

Converting Long-GOP footage to ProRes will help with a lot of things.

I find Phyx Keyer to give me better results than the basic keyer that comes with FCP X and Motion 5 (more advanced controls available in the Motion 5 version of the built-in keyer, BTW).

Our FCPUG did a micro-workshop on green screen last month. Here's the gallery, with our finished product (very rough, can only do so much in 2 hours). But it shows a green screen composite inside of another green screen composite (4 layers) all inside FCP X with no third party or custom effects.
