Fcp x can't trim flies when consolidating!?!?!?

Okay, been using FCP X for a while, although not on any paid work, and just realized you can't trim your media when consolidating. This is an absolute deal breaker for me. I have work going back a decade archived in FCP 7 with trimmed media and that would be impossible for me to do if I had to save all my full length clips. I work with 90 minute to 2 hour clips. Why they didn't include this feature is beyond stupid. Oh, well, off to Adobe Premiere or Davinci, now that High Sierra has killed FCP 7. Nice job, Apple.

It's definitely a feature that has been requested forever.

I usually throw what I need in a timeline and consolidate that, but it doesn't help if your clips are 90 minutes - 2 hours long.

(Even creating compound clips and being to consolidate those 'trimmed' ones would be helpful.)

The only workaround I could figure out is sending your final edit to Davinci, which can consolidate and trim with handles (even the free lite version), then round tripping back, but that's not the most seamless process.

If I cover an event, for example, that I'm editing and it has a lot of unusable shots (I usually record multiple takes of the same thing, different angles, sometimes different exposures, etc), I'll just clean everything up and export a ProRes file and edit that.

My 4K quality is already so high that I'm okay with any generation loss (even though I could never tell the difference) for the 150-250GB I'll usually save. Then when I'm finished with the edit, I'll just consolidate that (pretty much already is because it's just one file) and it's of course much less in size because everything in that ProRes file was trimmed/cleaned up.

(I wouldn't do this if I'm not editing the footage and/or it's a project for a new client who I don't know well and unaware of his or her expectations.)
