Was wondering if anyone here was editing footage from the Canon 5D Mark ll and if so how has the overyall editing experience been? I'm right on the verge of popping for the Mark ll. I'm very impressed with the color reproduction and resolution of the image...But before I get the camera I just wanted to get feedback on the overall editing experience. I will be doing a documentary on symbolism and so I will be doing allot of shooting of fine art objects... Also will be switching from FCP 7 to Final Cut Pro X...Thanks and Peace...

You should have no problems. But why a Canon MarkII? So many other camera coming out that will blow the MarkII away!

That's pretty much all I shoot/edit except for occasional GoPro footage. Works great within FCP7 when transcoded to ProRes. Works great within FCPX...but I still transcode to ProRes.

yea like the 5D MarkIII

To the op FCPX handles my native 5D footage just fine, however if you plan to do any heavy Color Grading or VFX work I'd suggest transcoding to ProRes, it will hold up better to heavy post work.
Transcoding h.264 material to another more robust format for these reasons applies when working in AVID, Premiere, etc. not just in FCP land

ive heard there has been issues with h.264 and that you should transcode to prores? have you experienced any issues?

The only issues would be if you don't have the hardware horsepower to edit H.264 smoothly, like on an Air or Mac Mini.
