Quick Workflow with FCP -

Use the HDV Easy Setup (trust me) found in the file menu before digitizing or even batch spotting clips to digitize!!

Also, keep in mind while you're creating a batch list that every single time the recording was switched on/off there is a break in the GOP structure of the MPEG2 data on the tape, and FCP sees that break... if you set a batch capture that happens over one of those breaks (ie any cut in the video), it is going to automatically create a subclip starting from that break in the GOP structure until your next batch out point, or the next break it finds.

This can be alarming if you're not aware of what is going on, and a bit of a pain if you're used to grabbing chunks of scenes all in one batch (as I am). The big problem with this happening, for me anyway, is that I'm not sure I feel comfortable trusting subclip designations in a batch to happen the same way every time I digitize using the same in/outs... since the computer is making the decision each time, there could be slight variations that could mess up the edit timeline later (just incase you need to redig the footage).

So, create your batch keeping all of that in mind, and batch digitize.

Edit your material, and export it using Compressor - go straight to DVD format profiles from the timeline. This is going to downconvert your material to standard def. Make sure to appropriately select aspect ratio, etc.

Then when you're assembling your DVD in DVD Studio Pro, make sure to set the video clips and DVD Project to 16:9 aspect. That will help display things properly.
